Outrage makes President change tone of Back to School Message

The following was sent to the SunTelegraph this morning in response to their editorial on the President's speech to school children on Tuesday.

It is appropriate to take issue with your comment on the President's speech.

The outrage felt by millions had nothing to do with the contents of his speech, which had not been released, but rather the inclusion of a lesson plan that sought to tell (or more properly ask) the children how they could help the President get his message out better.

The issue wasn't speaking to kids, it was the unprecedented lesson plan that was accompanying from the Department of Education. That was what the controversy was all about.

The speech the President gave was pretty innocuous. It is my opinion that the public outcry over the lesson plan made the Whitehouse tone the message down. The American public spoke and the President listened. That's what it's all about.
