Candidate Nelsen interview post this evening

The purpose of this page is to provide a resource for people to learn about which candidates are seeking their vote on a variety of county and city related positions. Links to biographical information, news and candidate interviews will be provided as necessary to help provide the people of Cheyenne County in obtaining as much information about each candidate as possible prior to the election. Theguardiannews does not take any position endorsing any candidate for any office.

For those who read TheGuardianNews, feel free to post questions to each candidate. A candidate survey which will,  in part, reflect your questions will be provided to each person seeking office. Those results will be made available to our readers. Candidates are listed below in alphabetical order. Current office holders are noted.

  1. This is looking like it will be a good election year.

  2. Only 4 move on to the November election, is that correct?

  3. Based on the 2008 race, that is my understanding. I will double check tomorrow and post an update if necessary.

  4. There is 1 more seat open now, then in the 2008 election. That's why I questioned just 4.

  5. Mike that is a good question. The election of councilmen is staggered with two in one cycle and three in the other. I have looked through the statutes and I have not yet been able to find a reference to say what happens in either case.

I continue to research the point and will reflect that change here if it is other what what is currently posted.

    Excellent question.

  6. Nebraska statutes 32-811, 32-814 provide the controls on who is on the primary ballot and who can make it to the general election ballot.

No more than two candidates per each open seat may survive the primary election if no seats are vacant. There will be six names on the November Ballot, but more importantly, there presently seven candidates listed. There will be a primary election for the City Council positions so... get your questions ready.

  7. Why is this site never updated? Surely, there have been comments since May?

  8. Dawn,

Several people have left comments of a personal nature after my announced withdrawal from the politics of Sidney and Cheyenne County back in May. The majority of those comments were reflective of the good nature exhibited by Sidneyites. The balance of the comments, well we will leave them to their own where they belong.

My intention for this particular thread was to comment and provide information of a public nature on City Council and the upcoming election. While I feel it was a valuable resource, it was not well received by a few people and I decided to apply my abilities to other ventures.

Dawn, I thank you for your inquiry and I wish you success in your search for the information you need to make an informed opinion. As for the local state of Sidney politics, I no longer concern myself as there is little to no impact I desire to make.

    Best Wishes,

    Mike Rowland
